Professional Actor Headshots in New York City

Photographed in a Brooklyn Studio

Hancock Headshots offers professional actor headshots in New York City, photographed primarily in a calm, private Brooklyn studio. Since opening my studio in 2006, I’ve photographed thousands of headshot sessions for actors working in theater, film, television, and commercial work.

I work with performers at every stage of their career—from first professional headshots to seasoned actors—creating images that feel natural, current, and grounded in presence rather than performance.

A Calm, Confidence-Building Approach

Working with people who feel uncomfortable, unsure, or self-conscious in front of the camera is very much my specialty. For many actors, headshots are something they postpone year after year—not because they don’t care, but because the process feels intimidating.

My goal as a headshot photographer is to create an environment where you can relax, feel supported, and gradually ease into the work. After photographing thousands of sessions, I’ve developed a set of techniques that help people loosen up, settle in, and begin to show up naturally on camera.

What Casting Directors Are Looking For

Casting directors and agents want to see the real you in a headshot. That’s true whether you’re an actor, an attorney, or a life coach—but for actors especially, authenticity matters.

The best way to arrive at an honest, compelling headshot is not to rush. I allow enough time for you to warm up, find your rhythm, and experiment. As the session unfolds, comfort builds, self-consciousness fades, and your natural energy begins to come through.

Finding the Right Light, Angles, and Expression

Every headshot session begins with exploring lighting and angles that suit your face. There is no single lighting setup that works for everyone. Small shifts—where you’re standing, how you’re angled, where the light falls—can dramatically change how a photograph reads.

I take care to explore a range of options so we can identify not only what is most flattering, but what feels most like you. The goal is never a generic “good photo,” but an image that feels honest and usable.

A Collaborative, Guided Session

Headshot sessions are collaborative by nature. I want to know what you’re hoping to achieve, what resonates with you, and what doesn’t. It’s important to me that you feel a sense of agency throughout the process.

At the same time, if you’re new to professional photo shoots—or simply prefer direction—you’ll be guided clearly and gently every step of the way. Using proven techniques, I’ll help you relax, adjust, and refine your expression without overthinking it.

After the Session: Image Delivery

Turnaround Time

To ensure the highest image quality, all headshots are photographed in RAW format. After your session, files are carefully processed and converted to high-resolution JPEGs. This process typically takes 2–3 business days.

Access to Your Images

Unlike some photographers, I believe in giving you access to all of the images from your session—not only a curated selection. Reviewing the full session is often a valuable learning experience, particularly for actors.

You’ll receive a private gallery link where you can view and download your images. The gallery will remain active for 30 days, during which time you’re welcome to share it with agents, mentors, or trusted peers.

Retouching: Natural and Considered

Retouching Options

Once you’ve chosen your favorites, simply email the image numbers and your retouched headshots will be delivered within approximately 3 business days (longer for larger orders).

Depending on your package, 2–8 images are retouched at no additional charge, with additional retouching available à la carte.

Preserving Your Natural Appearance

My retouching style is restrained and natural. Minor distractions—blemishes, stray hairs, under-eye shadows—are addressed while preserving your character and expression. Your headshot should still look like you. Wrinkles included.

Casting directors are not looking for perfection; they’re looking for personality.
